Mauritius Equity Markets | 7 Sep 2015 : Stock Exchange of Mauritius Equity trading struggles to overcome the negative sentiment
PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Equity trading on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius struggled to overcome the negative sentiment started last Thursday. As a result the equity market capitalization closed at MUR 216.092 after losing MUR 394 million (US$11 million) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 216.486 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.12 percent or 2.40 points to close at 1,940.45 points and SEM10 index closed at 370.13 points after tumbling by 0.16 percent or 0.58 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 1,261,972 (a fall relative to volume of 3.507 million recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 23.693 million (a fall relative to MUR 42.869 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 537,300 (about 43 percent of total volume) at MUR 467,451 and CIEL Limited registered 204,300 traded stocks amounted to MUR 1.389 million. Mauritius Oil & Refinery had 101,400 at US$ 2.738 million and New Mauritius Hotels recorded a total volume of 79,100 shares at MUR 1.463 million. Rogers & Co Limited also recorded 77,200 shares at MUR 2.303 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of 27 traded securities there were 2 price gainers and 6 price losers, hence the market sentiment ends neutral. B Mare Holding emerged as the top gainer by adding 2.68 percent to end at MUR 29.75 and Rogers & Co Limited ended at MUR 30.00 after surging by 0.84 percent. On the losers’ chart, Lottotech Limited ended at MUR 3.80 after sagging by 1.38 percent. VIVO Energy Limited fell by 1.26 percent to settle at MUR 118.00 and MCB Group advanced by 0.59 percent to close at MUR 210.00. Bluelife Limited with a price reduction of 0.47 percent to trade at MUR 4.22 and POLICY Mauritius sagged by 0.30 percent to conclude at MUR 6.66.
The DEMEX index ended at 203.61 points after gaining 0.31 points or 0.15 percent. The market capitalization added MUR 72 million to close at MUR 48.391 billion (relative to MUR 48.318 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 3.861 million exchanged in 91,323 traded securities. ENL Limited (Preference) surged by 1.07 percent to end at MUR 29.30, Medine Limited closed at MUR 64.50 after gaining 0.78 percent and CIEL Textile Limited was 0.52 percent higher to settle at MUR 38.50. SIT Land Hedging Option went down by 12.00 percent to end at MUR 11,000.00.
